Continuing our trip to California...
Monday
We slept in and skipped breakfast...and the session. ;)
For lunch, we met up with Shane and Heather (MN, director of youth ministries for the EFCA), Jon and Robin (IL), and Ron (IL - his wife, Mystelle stayed back and rested) and we headed to Anthony's Fishette. It was a little place right on the water. You had to be careful and guard your plate or a seagull might steal your food.
Then we boarded the USS Midway. It was an active aircraft carrier from 1945-1992. We spent about 3 hours on the ship and only toured about 1/2 of it. (My dad would be so proud to know that I was touring this ship without whining or crying because I think I did a little of that when I was a kid and we toured an aircraft carrier on one of our family vacations.) It's a HUGE ship...like a little city on water. Crazy to think that people actually lived here. (more info on the USS Midway from Wikipedia)
if you were higher ranked you had double bunk beds instead of triple so you could at least roll over in the middle of the night

After our tour, Jonathan and I just decided to hang around on the shore while the other couples drove back to the hotel. The Central District was going to meet us to take the ferry to Coronado Island for dinner. While we waited we took pictures of the clipper ships north of the Midway. We also watched two cruise liners leave their docks full of anxious vacationers. Looked like fun.Jonathan and I preferred the helicopter

After our group was assembled we purchased our tickets and took the relaxing ferry ride to Coronado Island. We ate at a very nice Italian restaurant and ate some delicious food. Jonathan had ravioli stuffed with butternut squash and pecans, topped with a sweet marina sauce and fried sage. It was so delicious and different. I had a pizza topped with prosciutto, mushrooms, fresh mozzarella, Parmesan cheese and arugula. Yumm-O!
We enjoyed a quiet ferry ride back to San Diego as most of the couples stayed inside on the main level. Jonathan and I appreciated a quiet moment after a lively dinner on the top of the ship watching the lights and laughing together. It was a great night!
More on our trip tomorrow...
