Last night Phin was put in the crib and Asher into bed. After about 30 minutes of Asher playing in bed it was time for some action. I got Asher settled down and went to check on Phin. He had been a little too quiet and when you have boys, most of the time quiet is bad news. But he wasn't in the crib. We've played these games before. I told him he needed to come out of his hiding spot and get in bed! But there was no response so I said it again. By this time I was a little agitated because we have the "first time" rule at our house. So I began to huff around looking for him.
the closet - no
behind the rocker - no
behind the door - no
in mom's bed - no
under mom's bed - no
in mom's tub - no
in mom's shower - no
in mom's closet - no
anywhere in mom's room/bathroom - no
Ok. Now I'm starting to panic a little because these are the usual hiding places and I had already been in Asher's room.
in the boys' closet - no
behind the boys' door - no
under the little foam couches - no
I proceed to the living room with panic in my heart. Jonathan had gone for a run. Did Phin seize his opportunity to escape bedtime jail?! He can't get the front door open so that couldn't be possible. Do I call the police? No! That would be crazy. But it's crazy for a 2-year-old to just disappear. Our house is small - where is he!! I even thought about the possibility of someone sneaking into his room through the window but I know the windows are locked and there's a dresser is in front of the window in the spare room so surely I would have heard the kidnapper if there was one.
I stopped myself to calm down. He didn't hear me when I called him. So I went back to the spare room with the crib. There was a shoe box sticking out from under the corner of the crib. And that's where I found him:
I had to wait until Jonathan was finished running before I put Phin in his bed. I wanted Jonathan to see it for himself. And there he was - all balled up sound asleep:

That would definitely be scary, but pretty funny where you found him. Makes you think how long you would have gone without looking there without that box pushed out.
