I'm asking myself the same question: "WHAT?!" I never thought I'd be the person to homeschool my kids. I always thought that homeschooled kids were weird and a little anti-social. But we have two really great friends who have been homeschooled. They're excellent husbands to their wives, great fathers (one will be a first time dad in April) and they're both "pastors" at our church. We also have some students in our ministry that are homeschooled and they turned out pretty normal...as normal as a teenager can be. So, after saying all that, like I'm defending myself, I have decided to homeschool Asher for preschool. We're going to start the week before Christmas, have a week off (gives me time to tweak some things before we really "grind down"). And then start our 26 weeks of learning (into the middle of June).
It's funny thinking that I'm "homeschooling" my preschooler because most of the stuff I plan on doing I did with my Grandma Bajema. She was a great grandma and loved to teach children. I was blessed to share a driveway with her and was blessed to have her teach me during the early years. My Grandma just spent extra time with me reading, coloring, learning numbers and letters. I have a scrapbook I made with her before I was in preschool with letters and pictures we cut out to go with them. I hope that I will instil the joy of learning in Asher and Phin. I'm really excited to give this a try! Just glad that most of it will be reading books, coloring and directed play.
I'll let you know what curriculum I'm using when I get all my materials together.

Hey Jessica! I think that this is great! Nate had been going to Mom's Day out once a week before we moved and he learned so much. Now that we are in winter wonderland I would love to direct some of his energy into something like this! Keep us all posted! --Jen olesen
Jess- If anyone would be good at homeschooling, it would be you. I'm excited to hear how it goes:)
Jessica you will do an awesome job. You did have a great teacher. Grandma Bajema loved you and loved being a teacher. May God bless you as you begin this journey with Asher and Phin. If your dad and I can do anything to help please let us know. We love you and encourage you as God will walk with you. MOM and DAD
I'm interested to hear about how this goes.
I'm starting on Monday and I'm still waiting for some books and CDs to come in the mail. I hope they make it on time!
